This reminded me of something else. I have a humor anthology at home with a terrific piece by Russell Baker making fun of a restaurant review by Craig Claiborne. Claiborne had won some sort of charity auction and flew to France for a multi-course meal from this super-exclusive, super-expensive restaurant, which he wrote about in excruciating detail for the New York Times. (The humor anthology actually had to include Claiborne's piece in order to give context to Baker's response.) Baker, mimicking Claiborne's stuffy and somewhat pompous style, described the dishes he consumed on a night at home, with his wife out of town -- fried bologna, peanut butter sandwiches, orange soda and so on. Of course, he had to describe the preparation of each dish in detail, just as Claiborne had done. It was a scream.
