I never watch the Oscars, but:
This year I did for some reason. From the early red-carpet on E! [the first hour is just painful, people. If you never thought you'd feel sorry for Ryan Seacrest, just watch the first hour of the red carpet and you will. But shut up about the azalea you're standing on, mmk? You're in the press and you can damn well stand where they tell you if you want your stars.] through to the end.
My thoughts:
* Yay for Scorcese. It was sooo past time.
* I haven't seen Dreamgirls yet to know about Eddie Murphy, but Alan Arkin was fantabulous in Little Miss Sunshine. It sounds like Murphy was awesome, and maybe this will teach him to quit doing stupid movies. I think this award was about backlash for Norbit and about 10 other pictures whose scripts he should have shredded.
* I think the 3 Dreamgirls songs in Best Song cancelled each other out. Yay for Melissa Etheridge and all, but her song was too whiny/political. The Dreamgirls musical number was awesome, with Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce dueling onstage.
* That said, I'm glad An Inconvenient Truth won the documentary category. And Al Gore was funny.
* Everything else I think is encapsulated by the smart girls at Go Fug Yourself.
